Will NetParent work on my computer?
Yes as long as you are running Windows 2000, 2003, XP and Vista. NetParent is windows 7 tested and compliant. |

The total application is 1.8 megabytes in size, and may grow with additional features with version upgrades.

How does NetParent protect my child from harmful internet content?
The NetParent notification platform was designed not to block access to certain sights, but acts as a filter where keywords, phrases, symbols and any submitted characters, are entered into the dictionary and will reside under the four main categories (Health, Morality, Violence and General. When any of the predetermined case sensitive words/phrases are present on your computer, either through deliberate key-stroke actions or through normal internet traffic, that specific word/phrase will be notified to you as parent, either via your predetermined notification method eg: Sms or E-mail. You as parent will then have the option to block and unblock your computer remotely through sms commands.

Will NetParent interfere with any other applications on my computer?
No. Your security software that you are running on your computer will pick up that NetParent is a filtering application. When confronted with a notification from your security application, you should allow the Netparent application, to function properly.

Yes. NetParent allows you as main account holder to load the NetParent notification platform on three computers within your home. |

How to Register?
Click on the register button on this website. Please submit all your relevant information for authentication. Once this has been authenticated, you will receive an e-mail of confirmation.

Your Password
Please create a password on the NetParent application (button no. 19) to activate your NetParent administration panel for dictionary management, or notification changes. This password will also be used to lock or unlock your computer. In a case where you have lost or forgotten your password, you can retieve it by clicking on the Recover Password button on your NetParent user interface, and your password will be sms'ed to the number submitted on the system.

SMS (short message service/text message) and e-mail notification Detect internet connection
You have the option to choose either the SMS the (no.9) or the e-mail notification (no.10) medium or both simultaneously. The words, web address or phrase entered into your customized dictionary will be notified via these mediums when triggered. You also need to submit your mobile/cellular telephone number in the space provided (no.11) to ensure that you receive SMS notifications.
You can send a test sms by using the designated button (no.15)
The status of your submitted mobile/cellular telephone number can also be verified by pressing the Status button (no.12)
You also need to submit your e-mail address to where you wish the notification to be sent while the application is active in the space provided (no.13) to ensure that you receive e-mail notifications.

Detect internet connection
With your registration and initial configuration, you will be required to click on the button (no. 17) to detect your internet connection. Please remember to click the "Detect Internet Connection" if you have changed your internet type, for example, from a wired connection to a 3G connection, etc. This is to ensure that NetParent can identify the adapter to be monitored.

I did not receive a notification
In the unlikely event of a notification failure, please click on the button “send info to support” (no. 18). Our support team will then be able to analyze the activities log and give you feedback.

Notifications seems to repeat themselves
In the event of a pre-chosen word, web address or phrase being repeatedly notified via SMS or e-mail, then the following options should be considered:
Remotely lock your computer by replying “yes” to the NetParent notification SMS, received on your mobile phone.
You can consider adjusting the notification delay time frame (no.14) This will allow you to manage the time intervals between notifications.
Remove the word, web address or phrase from your dictionary. (See Trigger Topics and Dictionary no’s. 1,2,3,4 & 5)

Can the application be deleted or uninstalled?
The registered user of the application will be able to access the administration console and remove or delete the application only by submission of the password. Should you wish to "turn off" NetParent momentarily, axess the NetParent user interface, submit your password and "un-tick" your sms and e-mail monitor or notification boxes.

The influence of Anti-Spy ware, Anti-Virus or other security software on NetParent.
It is your responsibility to configure your security software to exclude NetParent (WinPCap) from such scans. There is a possibility that your security software might detect WinPCap (Winpcap is a library that listens to network traffic) and this application forms and integral part of the NetParent application and should therefore be allowed.

How to manage the dictionary and customised words (see buttons 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5)
First click on the Dictionary button (no.5) to gain access.
Choose the topic (buttons no. 1, 2, 3 &/or 4) where you would like to store the specific entry.
Click on the specific topic to add or delete entries. Please note that you have to click the “Add” button that will be followed by a submission window where you can type the entry.
You can choose to add the entry by clicking the “OK” button or cancel by using the “Cancel” button.
Any entry can be removed by following the same procedure, by using the “Delete” button.
Click “OK” button to save changes.
Please be aware that all the entries/words, web address or phrase in your customisable dictionary will be triggered and a notification(s) will be sent with the following actions:
Any dictionary words/numbers, web address or phrase entered as a keystroke on your computer.
Any dictionary words/numbers web address or phrase present in an e-mail body text or the World Wide Web Browser.
Due to the design of the application, any words or characters (alpha, numeric or alphanumeric) will be triggered and notified through keystrokes and internet traffic that is currently present on your computer.

The NetParent application has a built-in notification counter (not visible on the interface) that will contact you when you have used the SMS’s that were included in the original monthly purchase of the application. How to launch and disable NetParent
When launching NetParent, click on your NetParent desktop icon. You will need to submit your pre-chosen password. To disable your NetParent application, click on the "Quit Button" in the top right hand corner. You will reactivate the application by clicking the NetParent desktop icon again and submitting your password.

How to lock/unlock your computer remotely
When a submitted word, web address or phrase, have been triggered, you will receive a SMS notification if you have selected the SMS trigger option on your NetParent application. It will read for example: “NetParent Internet trigger: “suicide” under the topic “Violence”. Reply YES if you want to lock your computer.” By replying “Yes” to this SMS on your cellular/mobile phone, your computer will be locked remotely. You will receive an SMS confirming this: “Thank you request for locking your PC has been granted”The user on the locked computer will not be able to access the application or any of the computer’s functions without the remote activation via SMS. You can unlock the locked computer by replying “Open” to the locked confirmation SMS received. You will receive an SMS confirming this: “Thank you request for un-locking your PC has been granted”
*Please note that in the case where you are running NetParent on more than one PC in your house, you will block/unblock them all when exercising your remote block/unblock option.*

Using your Alt symbol functions.
Some
operating systems do not allow the Alt symbol insert functions while
NetParent is running. Close NetParent when you encounter this problem,
and remember to re-activate your NetParent application when you leave
your computer.
