Nelson Mandela Legacy ProjectMvezo is the traditional homestead of Nelson Mandela and the actual birthplace of Madiba. It lies 45km along a dirt road in the heartland of the abaThembu people in the Eastern Cape. In April this year Zwelizelile Mandlesizwe Mandela, Madiba’s eldest grandson became Chief of the district. The Mvezo district is rural, populated by a people whose lives face hardships we in urban cities consider non existent.
Mandla has built in the community centre a room for the specific purpose of turning it into a children’s cinema. He wants to stop kids from hanging around taverns and adult drinking places particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings and to get them into the community centre to watch educational films and movies instead.
