NEW Friendly URLs

Page Friendly URL's

Domain names are essential to websites in the same manner that names are important to people. Imagine people being addressed or being called using a series of numbers or phrases instead of their names? Remember that names are already a problem for most, so one can imagine how chaotic and difficult it would be if people did not have names but just numbers.

All websites work in the same way, which is addressed using a domain name instead of a series of numbers. Like most numbers, it can be hard to remember and therefore making it as simple as possible for visitors is essential.

Search engines now rank websites on a number of criteria and in doing so have tightened on long meaningless URL’s. The reason for this is to ensure that website owners work to increase / better their rankings of their website.

Currently websites URL’s that are controlled by a content management system display information relevant to the client, modules they use and information relating to it. All of which get allocated Page ID’s in the content management engine. Come Alive now has now developed its systems to cater for those clients wanting to benefit from page friendly URL’s which make it easier for email or telephonic correspondence and search engines, assisting them in getting ranked better.

An example of how it works: A standard URL would like this for our "Contact Us" Page: http://www.comealive.co.za/site/awdep.asp?dealer=6126&depnum=20137. With our page friendly service it will read: www.comealive.co.za/ContactUs_20137.ca. The URL is now much shorter and meaningful and is well received by all search engines.

Just a few benefits to why URL’s should be friendly:

  • Keeps them short but meaningful.

  • Shorter URLs are better since people often type them manually. Short URLs email better. They don't wrap and break. Email is the second most common way users get to new sites

  • Short URLs are easy to read over the phone.

  • Short URLs can be memorised.

In doing such changes requires a lot of manual work to ensure all links within your site and the various modules used are linked to correct page friendly name.

Come Alive now offers this value add service to all its website clients using our CME (Content Management Engine) at great affordable pricing.
